Context aware service delivery in smart environments (2010-2012)

In a way to assist these users in their daily living activities, a dynamic, context-aware and intelligent mechanism is required to deploy assistive services on the different devices present in the smart environments, such as smart phones, tablets, desktop computers, laptops, embedded computers, etc. However, the complexity of the smart environments [28], with their heterogeneous devices, specific configurations, and the important quantity of information to process, turn the service provision into a serious challenge when dynamism and context precision are some of the system’s requirements. We proposed in this project a framework to automatically deliver services to users based on the context and their profile (interaction modalities).

Macro & Micro Context-Awareness (2010-2012, in collaboration with Bessam Abdulrazak & Patrice Roy)

Building context-aware system is not a trivial when it is required to take into account several context sources, users, clients, etc.  We proposed a meta-model to help developpers to build context-aware system via a multi-layers approach : the macro & micro context-awareness.

The micro context awareness revolves around the subjective perception and the under-
standing an environment entity has of its environment, while the macro context
awareness is the global, emergent picture that components help build of entities
in their environment.

Tyche project : an autonomic service oriented middleware for smart space (2007-2010)

The Autonomic Pervasive Computing aims to make the smart spaces more autonomous face to the human interventions. The smart spaces that are implementing this approach are managing themselves, a more important part of their software and hardware configuration, their maintenance and their management. Inspired by the Autonomic Computing, the Pervasive Computing and Ambient Intelligence, the Autonomic Pervasive Computing simplifies the set-up and the utilization of the smart spaces. Thus, Tyche project consist in the conceptualization of the Autonomic Pervasive Computing and in the conception of a middleware that will implements the concept of the Autonomic Pervasive Computing in the smart space context. This framework will contain several functionalities such as remote deployment, fault-tolerance and semantic discovery mechanisms.
